The PRS McCarty features a slightly wider body (than most PRS guitars), sweet plated pickups, increased headstock angle and a great wiring scheme for effortless coil tapping. Introduced in 1994 it appears to be one of the definitive guitars of its generation. Pick one up and you may not be able to put it down.

This is one of the last PRS guitars to feature a Brazilian Rosewood fretboard and headstock overlay.
As you may have heard PRS has recently (2008) discontinued the use of Brazilian Rosewood -- the final years of BRW use have apparently come and gone for PRS. This amazing figured rosewood which has been a feature of so many high end guitars (including the original Gibson solidbodies of the 50's) is going to get harder and harder to come by.
Brazillian Rosewood was added to the CITES some time ago and Paul Reed Smith has been operating out of their private stash in recent years.
After utilzing some other exotic woods in place of BRW, Paul Reed Smith has now suspended orders for the Artist Package option entirely (2008).
